Use this free beaded ornament cover pattern to DIY your own Christmas tree decorations. It's an easy beading tutorial that's great for all skill levels.
Are you one of those people that goes above and beyond when decorating your house for Christmas?
Lights, wreaths and garlands are all important. But, the star of the show is always the Christmas tree. Make your tree stand out even more by adorning it with handmade tree decorations.
Today, I'm sharing a step-by-step ornament cover tutorial that only requires seed beads and some bicones. Use this beaded ornament cover pattern to dress up plain old ornaments and turn them into a statement.
This free Christmas beading pattern is great for beginners and it uses a combination of Right-Angle Weave and Netting Stitch.
It's easily adaptable to accommodate any ornament size. I used an ornament that's slightly over 2 inches but I made the cover so it has a loose fit. I believe it could fit up to a 3" ornament but, I have not tried it so don't quote me on that.

beaded ornament cover Instructions
Step 1: Thread your needle with a comfortable length of beading thread.
Leaving a 4-inch tail, string 1A and 3B for a total of 10A and ten groups of 3B.
Turn the beads into a circle by passing through all of the beads from the tail end.
Continue past the tail thread and exit through the next 1A.
Step 2: To add a picot string 1B, 1A and 1B.
Go back through the 1A from the side opposite where your thread is exiting.
Continue through the next 3B and 1A.
Step 3: Repeat Step 2 nine more times until you have attached picots to each 1A.
Step 4: Go through the following 1B and 1A of the picot.
Step 5: String the following sequence of beads:
2B, 1C, 11B, 1C, 11B, 1C, 11B, 1C, 11B, 1C and 3B.
So, you should have a total of 5C and four groups of 11B.
Note: If you are using a 2" ornament and want your ornament cover to have more of a snug fit, use 9B instead of 11B throughout this pattern.
Step 6: Skip the last 3B strung and pass through the last 1C.
Step 7: String 11B, 1C and 11B.
Step 8: Skip 11B, 1C and 11B in the sequence of beads strung in Step 5.
Pass through the following 1C.
Pull the thread tight so the beads are snug against the existing beadwork.
Step 9: Repeat Steps 7 and 8 one more time.
Step 10: String 2B.
Go through the 1A at the end of the picot from the side opposite where you started in Step 5.
Note: You have just completed your first loop.
Step 11: Continue through the following 1B in the picot.
Then, through the next 1A, 3B and exit through the following 1A in the ring of beads.
Step 12: Work your way through the next picot, by passing through the following 1B and 1A.
Step 13: String 2B, 1C and 11B.
Skip the first 2B, 1C and 11B of the previous loop and pass through the next 1C.
Note: You will NOT pass through any C's with 2 pieces of thread running through them. They will be the ones at the V-shape in each of the loops.
Step 14: String 11B, 1C and 11B.
Skip the following 11B, 1C and 11B in the previous loop. Pass through the next 1C.
Step 15: String 11B, 1C and 3B.
Step 16: Skip the last 3B strung and go through the last 1C.
Pull the thread tight so the beads are snug against the existing beadwork.
Step 17: String 11B, 1C and 11B.
Skip the following 11B, 1C and 11B in the previous loop.
Pass through the next 1C.
Step 18: Repeat Step 17 once more.
Step 19: String 2B.
Go through the next 1A in the picot from the side opposite where you started in Step 13.
Step 20: Repeat Steps 11-19 seven more times until you have attached loops to all of the picots except the last one.
To add the loop to the last picot, repeat Steps 11-16.
Step 21: String 11B. Pass through the next 1C in the first loop.
Note: You will no longer have to add any C's. Simply pass through the ones that are already in the first and last loops.
Step 22: Zigzag up the beadwork adding 11B in between each 1C that doesn't have 2 pieces of thread running through it (It's not at a V-shape).
Step 23: Then, string 2B.
Pass through the next 1A in the final picot.
Step 24: Weave both the working and tail threads into the beadwork and tie several half-hitch knots. Remove the excess.
Your beaded ornament cover is now complete!
