Learn how to choose the right earrings for face shape that will enhance your natural beauty and show off your personal style.
Earrings are one of the most ancient body adornments and are still popular to this day. A great pair of earrings can complete an outfit, taking it from bland to something that catches everyone’s eye.
But, did you know that your face shape influences the style of earrings that you should wear?
It’s true. Just like the perfect necklace style, the right pair of earrings is a great way to accentuate your face and enhance its natural beauty. So, it follows that the first step to choosing the best earrings is to determine your face shape.
That’s what I’m going to talk about today. I’ll tell you all about the different types of face shapes and how to choose earrings for your face shape.
Types of Face Shapes and Earrings for Face Shape
Pull your hair back and take a good look at your face in the mirror. What face shape do you have?
You can also measure your face, if you want to be more precise.
Oval Face Shape
Does the line from your forehead blend with your high cheekbones? Your face may narrow slightly to a rounded chin.
Lucky you, if you have an oval face. It’s the most versatile face shape and you can wear pretty much any earring style you like. Spend some time experimenting to see which you prefer.
Round or Circle Face Shape
If your face is wide at the cheekbones without narrowing by the chin, you’ve got a round face shape.
Drop earrings and long dangles will look great on you because they will help to elongate your face.
Stay away from earring shapes that emphasize width e.g. large hoops and button studs.
Square Face Shape
The width of the forehead, cheeks and jawline will all be similar in this type of face shape.
It can be a challenge to choose earrings for a square face because you need to soften the hard angles and try to detract attention from a wide forehead and jaw.
But never fear, it can be done. Try hoops and any earrings with rounded edges. Select ones with medium to long lengths.
Avoid square earrings or studs as the hard lines and small size won’t soften your angles.
Heart Face Shape
You have a heart face if your forehead is wider than your cheeks and you have a narrow chin. You’ll also have a widow’s peak i.e. a V-shaped growth of hair toward the center of the forehead.
To balance the shape of your face, try wearing earrings that are wider at the bottom than the top e.g. teardrop earrings. Small, dangling earrings are best for flattering heart-shaped faces. Chandelier earrings could also work nicely as long as they’re not too over-the-top.
Inverted Triangle Face Shape
You may confuse the heart face shape with this one but the two are different. If you’ve got an inverted triangle shape, your facial angles will be much more pronounced and you won’t have a widow’s peak.
Stick to earrings that are wider at the bottom to balance your face e.g. triangles, tear drops and hoops.
Triangle Face Shape
This type of face shape is quite the opposite to the previous one. A triangle face has a narrow forehead and a wide jaw.
Choose long, slim earrings that don’t add extra width to the jawline. They can be wider at the top and taper at the bottom.
Diamond Face Shape
Is your forehead and chin narrower than your cheekbones? Then, you have a diamond-shaped face, my friend.
You’ll need earrings that will balance the angles of your face. Try ones with more width than length e.g. studs, small hoop earrings that hug the ears and teardrop shapes.
Stay away from long dangling earrings or top-heavy styles.
Oblong or Long Face Shape
This face shape is often confused for an oval-shaped face but it is longer than it is wide.
Studs or short drop earrings will give the illusion of a wider face. They will also highlight your eyes so choose colors that complement them.
Rectangle Face Shape
A rectangular face has even proportions similar to a square-shaped face but is longer.
Your best options, if you have this face shape, are earrings with rounded edges e.g. buttons, hoops and ovals.
Avoid studs, teardrops and earring styles with sharp angles or those that dangle past your chin.
Now, you can select earrings for face shape depending on which type you have. This will be a big help when choosing earring patterns too. Once you’re aware of whether longer or shorter earrings look better on you, you can select the appropriate earring findings.
