Right Angle Weave, also referred to as RAW, is an incredibly versatile bead weaving stitch. You can use it to make flat pieces of jewelry or even 3-dimensional designs. It's one of my favorite techniques.

I created this seed bead bracelet pattern. It's called the Sunflower Bracelet and it has become my most popular free beading pattern to date.

I recommend this beading tutorial for intermediate skill levels but as long as you're comfortable with Single-needle Right Angle Weave, have at it.

The Sunflower Bracelet is a simple two-row design and I have made both a written tutorial and a YouTube video for it.

Below, you'll find the full tutorial but you can also enter your information in the form on this page to receive a FREE digital copy of this bracelet.

Right angle Weave Bracelet Instructions

Step 1

Step 1: Thread your needle with a comfortable length of beading thread. Leaving a 4-inch tail, string 8A.

Step 2
Step 2: Go through the first 2A strung from the tail end to form a circle.

Step 3

Step 3: String 1B and pass through the next 2A of the circle of A’s.

Step 4

Step 4: Repeat Step 3 three more times. Continue through the first B strung.

Step 5

Step 5: String 8A and pass through the 1B from the side opposite where your thread is exiting.

Step 6
Step 6: Go through the first 2A of the 8A just added.

Step 7
Step 7: Repeat Steps 3 and 4.

Step 8
Step 8: Pass through the following 2A, 1B, 2A and 1B to exit the B where you need to attach the next circle of A’s.

Step 9
Step 9: Repeat Steps 5-8 until you have reached your desired length.
Note: The first half of your bracelet is complete.
Step 10
Step 10: To begin the second half of the bracelet, go through the next 2A and 1B to exit the side of the beadwork.

Step 11
Step 11: String 8A and pass through the 1B from the side opposite where the thread is exiting.
Step 12
Step 12: Go through the next 2A in the circle of beads strung in Step 11.

Step 13
Step 13: String 1B and go through the next 2A in the same circle.

Step 14
Step 14: Repeat Step 13 two more times. Continue through the shared 1B.

Step 15
Step 15: To get into position to add to the second half of the bracelet, pass through the next 2A and 1B.

Step 16
Step 16: String 8A and go through the B from the side opposite where you are exiting.
Note: I am moving in a counter-clockwise direction.

Step 17
Step 17: Repeat Step 13 twice.

Step 18
Step 18: To add the final B, pass through the 1B of the corresponding circle in the first half of the bracelet.

Step 19
Step 19: Go through the next 2A and 1B of the circle in the second half of the bracelet.

Step 20
Step 20: Get into position to add to the bracelet by passing through the next 2A, 1B, 2A and 1B.

Step 21
Step 21: String 8A and pass through the 1B from the side opposite where you are exiting.
Note: I am now moving in a clockwise direction.

Step 22
Step 22: Pass through the next 2A and then through the 1B at the side of the corresponding circle (the third one) in the first half of the bracelet.

Step 23

Step 23: Add the B’s by repeating Step 13 twice. Continue through the next 1B.

Step 24
Step 24: Pass through 2A, 1B, 2A and 1B to get into position to add to the bracelet.

Step 25
Step 25: Repeat Steps 16-24 to reach your desired length.
Ensure the length of the second half of the bracelet matches the first half.

Step 26
Step 26: Weave your thread through the beadwork so the needle exits 1B along the end of the bracelet pointing toward the center.

Step 27
Step 27: String 2A, 1B and one half of your clasp.

Step 28
Step 28: Go back through the 1B just strung.

Step 29
Step 29: String 2A and go through 1B in the second half of the bracelet along the final edge.
Reinforce the clasp. Tie several half-hitch knots and remove the excess thread.

Step 30
Step 30: Attach a piece of thread to the other end of the beadwork so that the needle is in position to attach the second half of the clasp (See Step 26).

Step 31
Step 31: Repeat Steps 27-29 to attach the other half of the clasp.

i am taking on this bracelet as my first project but not knowing the right size an type of needle and what kind and size of thread to use has made me start over several times.Your info on needles was wonderful and it solves part of my problem but I am still confused about thread. I purchased 0.35 mm silk thread and have trouble passing more than once through the size 11 beads. I went up to size 10 beads and that seems to work. What size and material makes for good beading thread?
    Thanks
    Suzanne

      Hi Suzanne,

I’m so glad to hear that you are using my bracelet as your first project. I typically use Fireline or Wildfire for my beadweaving projects. Try using a 6lb or 8lb Fireline. 0.35mm thread will be too thick for smaller seed beads like size 11 or 15. The 10lb Wildfire thread I am using now is 0.15mm. I do appreciate your question though because it helps me to know what information to include in the future, so thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I hope my answer has helped you.
