Learn how to peyote stitch using this easy bracelet pattern for beginners. It includes step-by-step photos with instructions written in English.
If there was such a thing as giving awards to the bead weaving stitch with the most variations, Peyote Stitch would win. There are so many variations you can try.
One of the simplest Peyote Stitch beading techniques is called Flat Even Count Peyote Stitch. The resulting beadwork is flat and you start off with an even number of beads which lends to the name.
In this post, you'll find a free Peyote Stitch pattern for beginners. It's an easy bracelet tutorial using two colors of Miyuki Delica beads to create a lovely striped design.
I highly recommend using Delica beads instead of regular seed beads because Delicas are incredibly consistent in size and shape. They're also cylindrical instead of rounded. Both of these qualities means the beads will fit perfectly together and make it easier to work.
I have created both a video and written tutorial for this project.

Peyote Stitch Bracelet Instructions
Step 1: Thread your needle with a comfortable length of beading thread.
Attach a stop bead, leaving a 10-inch tail.
Step 2: String 2A, 2B, 2A, 2B and 2A.
Let the beads slide down your thread to the stop bead.
Step 3: String 1A.
Reverse direction and skip the last 1A strung in Step 2. Then, pass through the following 1A.
Note: The 1A just added should stack on top of the last 1A.
Step 4: String 1B.
Skip the following 1B and pass through the next 1B.
Step 5: String 1A.
Skip the next 1A and pass through the following 1A.
Step 6: String 1B.
Skip the following 1B and pass through the next 1B.
Step 7: String 1A.
Skip the next 1A and pass through the final 1A in the row.
Step 8: String 1A.
Reverse direction and, skipping the 1A at the end of the row, pass through the last 1A added to the previous row.
Note: You should be passing through the 1A that's sticking out.
Step 9: String 1B.
Skip the following 1B and pass through the next 1B that's sticking out.
Continue to the end of the row, filling in the three remaining spaces with 1A, 1B and then 1A.
Step 10: Repeat Steps 8 and 9 until you reach your desired length.
Step 11: Now you're going to work your way to the middle columns of the beadwork to add the clasp.
Pass through the 2A in the rows before the final two rows.
Step 12: Next, go through the 2B in the rows before the final two rows.
Step 13: Continue through the final 2A in the middle of the beadwork.
Step 14: String 5C and one half of the clasp.
Step 15: Go back through the last 1C strung.
Step 16: String 4C.
Go through the 2A in the middle of the beadwork from the side opposite where the thread is exiting.
Reinforce the clasp.
Weave the working thread into the beadwork. Tie several half-hitch knots and remove the excess.
Step 17: Remove the stop bead from the other end of your beadwork. Attach the needle to the tail thread.
Repeat Steps 11-16 to add the second half of your clasp.
Your bracelet is now complete!
I am familiar with (1 & 2) and 3, and 4 and so on. One pattern shows 1, 2, 3 and so on. How do I do it?
Sorry, but I don’t understand your question.
Do I have to use 8/0 or can I use what I have in my supply?
You can use what you have but 8/0 is preferred if you’re entering the design challenge.
If I can order some 8/0 delicas in time to enter I would love to participate. If not maybe next time. Thanks for doing these sounds like alot of fun!!
Sounds good. I hope you can participate!
I would like to use size 11 seed bead, is this OK,? Also does the design have to be just stripes, or any design as long as you see 13 stripes from using 14 beads wide?
Hi, you can use size 11 seed beads. Just follow the pattern using the beads you have.
